We are currently sat in a Blue Kia Rio on the M1 with more than a touch of precipitation heading towards the annual Jazz Education Network Conference in Louisville! Sadly, a little farther away than 8 miles, more like 3952 direct miles to go! Still with a fair wind and playlist that includes Grandpa Jones and Diana Krall the next 12 hours will surely fly by.
Listening to some great bands including: Greg Fisher, Victor Wooten, Terrell Stafford, Bobby Shew & Ingrid Jensen.
We will be having meetings with: Yamaha, Vandoren, Bach, Selmer & Conn about supplying reeds and horns to our students in the UK. We will hopefully be lunching with Rick Dillard (American Classic Tours) to book our next USA tour for the Screaming Kicks Big Band in January next year!
With me today in the Blue Kia Rio (jazz time machine) is: Jayne, Stuart & Josh. All great company and invested in the forthcoming weeks work and activities.
Over the next week we will be discussing jazz pedagogy with: Clayton Hamilton, Wycliffe Gordon, John Pattitucci, Jamey Aebersold & Mary Jo Papich.
We will be catching up with our fellow educational institutions including: Berklee College of Music & Brubeck Institute. We will be enjoying watching Josh play at the pro jazz hang, let us hope that he steps up! His “go-pro” footage will be posted on the HHMusicSchool Facebook page.
All this will help to invigorate the team for another super year of Hot House music activities based in Derby.
More details of Hot House events can be found in another BLOG titled: “Now’s The Time”.
