Shelton Rocks with a little help from Hot House Music School

Last week the Hot House team went to Shelton Infant School to introduce the pupils there to the various instruments we teach. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Mr Lee and the staff there for being so friendly, accommodating and keeping us topped up with tea! We were so very impressed with the school’s environment, facilities and its bright young students. We all had such a blast and cannot wait to go back there next week!

What delighted us the most was how eager all the children were to get their hands on the instruments and how excited they were to see us again! The children were fascinated by Jon Eno’s trumpet playing, especially when he made it sound like a horse or a race car. Some lucky pupils also had the opportunity to move the trombone slide and become part of a small band!

There is no doubt that these sessions were extremely fun for the children. One of our highlights was a very young boy squealing with joy whenever he made a sound from the clarinet, he was clearly having the time of his life! We also brought some flutes to show the pupils, which is one of the most difficult instruments to produce a sound from, but we were amazed at how many of these talented children were able to produce a sound from it!

Sound was not the only thing produced from the flutes, we remember one child who blew so hard there was a bottom raspberry to accompany his trumpet raspberry! We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Timothy Turner for having the foresight to bring a MONSTER packet of baby wipes, which allowed us to clean up after the trials, thanks Tim!

These hilarious days will certainly stick with us, enthusing us to return to Shelton Infant School next week, this time bringing our ukuleles for all of the kids to try out. We are very grateful to Shelton Infant School for having us, and we’re excited to go back and see all of their shining superstars!
