The Big Band ensemble is designed to provide a home for the very best young musicians who are looking to develop and stretch their musical abilities. They rehearse and perform everything from Swing to Latin with a handful of vocals in their too! Each term there are special guest artists who visit for master-classes and clinics.

Members of the Big Band may be invited to be a part of the Hot House “Gifted & Talented” programme, known as the “Screaming Kicks”. As part of this programme, young musicians will have the opportunity to tour around the world and work alongside some of the greatest musicians and educators currently around! Recent tours have included: San Francisco, Boston, New York, New Orleans, Paris & Louisville!

All members are expected to attend concerts as required by the conductor as agreed at the start of each term, we run a “first in the diary policy”.

Weekly not including “school holidays”. Please check with your conductor for any “changes” to the termly calendar!

You can “access all areas” with our VIP “PRO” Pass (come to as many Pro, Superstar & Debut level ensembles as you want!)

Subscriptions are automatically renewed/debited (monthly on the same date) until cancelled by the customer!

Students are encouraged to wear appropriate ear protection throughout all rehearsals and concerts. Please can parents/guardians provide an appropriate level of ear protection.

Band Rules:

To maintain the quality and integrity of the band, you must attend more than 2 Hot House ensembles (unless you are in post 16 education with grade 8 in your main instrument, in which case this can be discussed with the musical director) throughout the week.

At the start of each term, you are required to check the gig list to inform the musical director of any “clashes”. School events come first.

Attendance to ALL rehearsal is required (if you require a “pass”, please discuss this with the musical director asap, family comes first)!

All rhythm section musicians must be prepared to “share the chair”, you are encouraged to support your fellow band members.

Along with the dress-code, personnel for gigs is assigned by the musical director.

For the safety of each member, consumption of alcohol by any member of the Big Band is not allowed on Big Band gigs.
