We have been running the Ukulele Club at Chellaston Junior School for the last few weeks and have been extremely impressed with the progress each the students are making! It’s amazing to think that in just a few short weeks we have moved from learning how to hold the Ukulele to actually playing chords on it!

Each session starts with some #musicskills coordination exercises, which the budding young musicians find really fun and challenging. Once they’re all loosened up we can start playing the Ukuleles. We like to do some quick warm-ups to get them used to playing each string and copying rhythms. This is a great opportunity to let each of them have a go at “leading” the session. Then we play…

The students all learn three basic chords – we started with the C chord which is the easiest but soon moved onto more difficult chords like G7 and F. It’s not easy manoeuvring between these different chords, however it is essential as the “next step” is to use these chords in a pattern to play some songs.

We are really looking forward to coming back after half term to deliver more great sessions to the talented students at Chellaston Junior School and are excited to see what we will all play this term.
