You do you

All through college I was told “You don’t do real A-levels” because I decided to take a creative approach instead of an academic one. Don’t get me wrong I’m actually fairly good at academics, I just didn’t want to do maths or business. Ironic right? I’m about to start an apprenticeship degree through Hot House Music in business management and leadership.

The thing is the creative route I decided to take in college didn’t prevent me from getting an apprenticeship and accessing higher education. If anything, it has helped me in my new job role as an apprentice. Taking not 3 but 4 A-Levels was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made (the best being joining the team at Hot House Music). It taught me time management and how to create effective media products, compositions etc. all things that I am doing and will have to do throughout my time as an apprentice.

I’ve always wanted to get into the music industry, and before joining Hot House I had no clue how to do that. I’m a behind the scenes kind of person and that’s why I love music production such as the work alumni Alex Archer has done on Wil Pearson’s new single, I Wish You Well.

This apprenticeship is giving me the opportunity to do things I never would have thought of doing, like a business degree, but it’s also giving me the opportunity to do things I love such as travelling and going to recording studios, and most importantly giving our students a love for music.

What I’m trying to say is, the decisions I have made have given me the best opportunity ever! I know it sounds cheesy and cliché but getting this apprenticeship has changed my life. I was never keen on going to Uni and living “the Uni life”. It’s just not me. This apprenticeship is perfect for me, and it can also be perfect for you, as it allows me to do what I love whilst also getting a Uni degree.
