Keep creative – start a project!
A project is a planned, timed series of activities completed to achieve a goal. There is a huge range of sizes and types of projects, from changing the layout of your bedroom to building a skyscraper. Anyone can start a project; it could be personal, or business related but I will be talking about personal ones in this blog.
It’s important to stay creative! Sometimes being stuck in a routine doing the same thing (or nothing) every day can be monotonous and unhealthy for your brain – keeping your brain happy requires variety and interest in what you are doing, and projects are a great way to provide this variety. Plus, you can do a project on anything so hopefully you pick something you are passionate about or will reward you in some way!
Our recent VOX e-speaker, Julian Hepple (Head of Music Technology at the Guildhall School in London) recently stated…
Starting a project is super easy – it just takes an idea! Find something realistic that you will enjoy and will either be a rewarding experience or result and begin thinking about how to do it! Plans don’t need to be super detailed; it is just important to think about what you need, how long its going to take and a basic order of actions.
Thanks to development of new technology and increasing access to free software, as musicians, there’s huge opportunity to work on projects such as writing, recording and producing from home! Collaborating online has become easier than ever and the #tribe has been working together on some amazing projects online both in our ensembles and on their own music social media pages! Working on these projects is a great way to showcase talent, increase online presence and build a portfolio as being a musician has become a ‘portfolio career’, so having this content to show people is an amazing asset.
This technology has also allowed us to continue delivering lessons even though we can’t do them face to face, plus collaborate to create amazing projects with students so we’re still playing together even though we’re not in the same room!
Be proud of what you do and create, show the world your projects and break the routine!
